Located 200 meters from Godowalia crossing, Jangamwadi Math is also referred to as Kashi Vishwaradhya Jnana Simhasana Peetha. It is one of the five Virashaiva peethas. The Jnana Simhasana Peetha established by Jagadaguru Viswaradhya still exists in Kailash Mandap here.
In ancient times, the archaryas of Jangamwadi Math used to sit on Jnana Simhasana delivering religious discourses of Veerashaiva philosophy. This tradition of sitting in Jnana Simhasana during the coronation of the successive Jagadagurus is still in practice.
In Jangamwadi Math, you can find rows and rows of Shivalingas arranged on a platform. The reason behind it is that when a follower of Veershaiva philosophy meets an unnatural death, a shivalinga is kept here.
