Apart from the stairway, separate ropeway facilities are also available to reach the hilltop. Another temple, which is famous in Dongargarh, is the Chota Bamleshwari Temple. It is situated in the plain here. This temple is famous as the Badi Bamleshwari Temple.

Maa Bamleshwari Temple, Dongargarh History

Dongargarh, previously known as Kamakhya Nagari, was ruled by King Verseen 2200 years ago. He was childless. To get a son, he prayed to Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga in Mahahismati Puri. The queen gave birth to a son after a year, as a result of their prayers.

The child was named Madansen by the astrologers. Inspired by this devotion, Maa Bamleshwari Temple was built in Kamkhya Nagari. King Madan Sen was a public servant ruler. His son was King Kamsen, after whom Kamkhya city was named Kamavati Puri.

In 1964, Shri Raja Bahadur, the former king of Khairagarh, handed the responsibility of running the temple to the Maa Bamleshwari Trust Committee.
